why i blog

i've read a lot of blogs. i've read a lot of different people's blogs. each are unique in their own way. some are very positive. some are very real. some are weird. some inspire me. some depress me. some make me laugh hard! some motivate me. some keep it very real, a little too real for me, some seem like they have it all together, and some make me go hmmmm....

when i started my blog earlier this year, it seemed a pretty natural thing for me to do. i had been reading several blogs already such as crazy daisy and mrs. troop and enjoyed them very much. i had also been writing letters to my kids. i started when my daughter was younger. i would just write about what milestones they were hitting, what activities they've enjoyed, what they didn't like, and some funny stories or memories. i kept it up for a couple of years. then our computer crashed and i was very afraid i would lose all that work - and yes i did back it up. i decided to start my own blog.

first i had to come up with a snappy name - the adventures on treasure's island. if you thought it was cute and inventive, don't give me too much credit. when your name is treasure the only two things you ever hear starting in elementary school is some lame joke about a "treasure chest" or "treasure island". coming up with the name of my blog was not more than a stone throw away from those jokes.

of course coming up with a nickname for "the officer" was not hard either since he's a motorcycle police officer. i have yet to come up with cute little nicknames for my children. there are not many female characters in treasure island. so until i come up with something cute, they will be "my son" and "my daughter". by the way, if you mention the names of my children in a comment they will not be posted to the blog. is it sad that when i shoot video of the kids they know they cannot call each other by name? my daughter will say, "wait mommy we have to do that all over again because i called bubba (insert his name)."

anyhow, i did find out this weekend there were two more people who read my blog that i didn't know about. so that makes a total of about 10 of you who keep up with our family! :) thanks!

i only know if you read my blog if you leave a comment or you tell me you do. usually it's other bloggers who read other bloggers. most people who don't blog just want to look in from the outside - not that there's anything wrong with that.

the blogging is actually a lot of fun. i really enjoy it. it's an outlet for me. it's a way for me to keep the memories fresh. it allows me to share something i think is exciting or interesting. i love keeping the running list of my daughter's running vocabulary because it will be one of those little things i will forget as she gets older. it keeps a record of when my son rescues me. my kids already know about their mom's crazy obsession with coupons, why i have to carry them all in my wallet, the fact that i don't do the whole raw meat thing, and that i love to get free stuff.

even though i already know it, i can let everyone else know why i think the officer is such a great dad. they can read about the things their dad did with them when they were younger. maybe they will see homeschooling wasn't all work at the coffee table. i want a place that the kids can come back to. they can find out why we loved them so much and how much they have changed. they can see their mom is not perfect by far and who i have to lean on to get me through the tough days.

i want any readers (all 10 of you - does your mom count - because if moms don't count then there could only be 9. what am i saying "moms" totally count - she's one of my biggest supporters - so it's back to 10 readers!) to know that it's only by the grace of God that we are able to muddle through everything. He is this family's only hope and salvation. we try hard to go where He guides us. good grief i think sometimes He has one of those big yellow signs that says "this way" with an arrow pointing the way, and i still say, "i wonder what God wants us to do." i'm so glad He is patient, loving and merciful.

anywho... those are are some of the reasons why i write this blog. i write the posts as soon as i can just so i can get it all out while it's still fresh in my mind. so... i hope you enjoy some of this blog. i hope some it's a little useful. when i hear great stuff at church or somewhere else and it hits home with me, i just have to share it on he
re. maybe someone else needs to hear it too. so thanks for going along this journey with me and my family. it's nice to have you along.

I love reading your blog. It's so nice to know there's someone else going through the same stuff as me, and you always put it in a godly perspective, or with hilarious wit!

Blogging has really helped me to have a place to deal with stuff. Stuff I'd like to talk to my husband about, if all we had to do was sit around and talk. yeah, right. I think it makes us bloggers healthier, emotionally anyways. And my cousin says that after the rapture, and God's people are caught up, our blogs will still remain for others to read and find the Lord. I just hope the massive storage place--where all the world's blogs are stored--never crashes!

I *LOVE* this post. I have been in a slump and not feeling like writing for one reason or another, but you have reminded me of the MAIN reason that I started our blog. Thanks!!

I write because I want to have this for our family... I wish I hadn't lost sight of that.

Thanks again for sharing your sweet heart!
