"chickens" & pigs

today we were at home eating lunch when we heard a knock at the door. i answered the door and saw it was our neighbor across the street. she said she had 4 redhawk tickets and a parking pass that we could have if we wanted. her husband's boss had given them the tickets but they weren't going to use them. they thought we might like to take the kids. the game started at 4:05 p.m. the officer had been wanting to take the kids to a baseball game, so we decided to go. why not - free tickets!

we arrived early and walked around the ballpark. we'd never been with the kids before. they got little souvenir bats.

the seats were great. first row right at the end of the dugout behind first base. however, it was also very hot! we sat in our seats for about 20 minutes and then decided to move on up in the shade. it was much more comfortable. so here's a tip when buying tickets for the redhawks game in the summer. get tickets in sections 111-117 or so and in row R-U. these will pretty much always be in the shade and your seats won't be hot. we had a snack - peanuts - and water to eat before we ate dinner. the kids liked being able to just throw the shells on the ground.

we left about 5:30 p.m. to go eat dinner. the redhawks were tied 2 to 2 against round rock express. on our way out we saw the redhawk mascot, which the kids kept insisting was a chicken. my son wanted to take a picture with the "chicken" but my daughter wanted nothing to do with the "chicken".

we ate dinner at earls - a great bbq place downtown. it's decorated with a bunch of pigs. the food was YUMMY! the kids had their first root beer floats. they liked - scratch that - loved them! :) oh yeah, redhawks lost 5 to 3.

it was a great, unexpected family evening out. thanks mr. j & mrs. m!!!!
