Tissue Please

My kids had their Christmas choir program a couple of weeks ago. This consisted of singing a couple of songs. One song had motions. My daughter was nervous about it because she couldn't remember all the motions. My son helped her practice and told her he would sit by her to help her.

One of the songs they sang was "Silent Night". I shot a little video of it. (Make sure you pause the playlist at the bottom of the blog before you play the video.)

They look very excited to be up on stage singing don't they. The only time they smile is when they look at me. I especially love how my daughter wipes her nose on her arm starting at her shoulder all the way down to her wrist. Oh well. It's not like she was digging in the back of her pants with both hands! :) If you think they look a little tired, the program started at 6:30 p.m. and that's their bedtime. I think they yawned no less than 6 times while they were singing.

I just love children's programs, don't you? There's always something funny that happens.

Son's Baptism

I wrote back in November about my son having a new birthday. I tear up just thinking about it. I wanted to share some picture of my son's baptism with you.

We arrived to church and met with the man who was going to baptize my son. His name is Wilson and I remember him at our church from when I was a young girl. We met around 9:45 a.m. Mr. Wilson talked to my son and another man about what baptism was and why we are baptized. My son sat on the front row of a little room with his legs crossed, reading through the papers Mr. Wilson had given him with a calm, quiet spirit.

I asked him if he understood what he was doing and he said, "Yes."

The officer had to work, but showed up around 10:10 a.m. He helped my son get into his baptism gown and robe.

When my son was dressed, Mr. Wilson gave him instructions:

1. I will say a few words and then ask you what Jesus has done for you.
2. You will take a deep breath and hold it for 3 seconds.
3. You will go underwater during that 3 seconds.
4. When you come up from the water, blow our your nose and take a breathe in your mouth.

This is right up my son's alley. Specific instructions he can follow.

We had invited family and friends to share this day with us. In our church, you are allowed to walk right up to the baptistry to watch. With family and friends surrounding my son, he was baptized. Of course, I was taking pictures while tears rolled down my cheeks.

It was such a sweet moment to share with him. I will never forget it.

3 John 1:4
"I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.
"

We have electricity

Can't let the year end without telling you how great my mom is. Well she is a great mom, but she is an awesome grandma.

For my son's birthday, she got him 4 different science kits. She knows he loves to do the hands on experiments. She got him a weather stations, a can robot, a potato clock, and clean water science kit.

Not only does she come over every Monday to read with the kids, but the last couple of times she has come over she has done the science kits with my son.

This is been a lot of fun for my son. They got the potato clock running potatoes, bananas, and apples. They also did the weather station.

Do you like our fancy science lab? A green towel on the kitchen floor!

Thank you Grandma K for taking the time out of your busy grandma schedule (she's more busy than before she retired) to spend time with my children. I hope I am half the grandma you are. I love you!

" "

My daughter has started a new thing.

I suppose she has seen me do it.

A couple of weeks ago, she said to me, "Mom, I like those "twice-baked potatoes". "

I laughed. She used air quotes on the words "twice-baked potatoes".

I said, "Honey, why are doing that thing with your fingers. They really are twice-baked so you don't do that thing with your fingers." She just laughed it off.

Later, she said, "I love "Christmas time". Again with the air-quotes. Since I just laughed at her, she has been doing it to everything.

"I like "cookies"."

"I like that movie "Tangled"."

"Is that "Hobbs" (our dog) over there?"

She is still making up her own vocabulary words. I have kept a running list of her vocabulary so I can remember all the funny words she makes up. Tonight she asked me if she can have a snackerdoodle (snickerdoodle), a snickerdoodler, a snackdoodler..... it went on. She finally got it right.

The other night she came into our bedroom in the middle of the night. She said, "Mommy I can't go back to sleep. I had a bad dream." I replied, "Can you try to go back to your bed and go to sleep?" This usually works. She answered, "No mom. I am afraid if I go back to my room, I will have a continued story." Continued story: picking up where a bad dream left off when you go back to sleep. She crawled into bed with me and fell right asleep. These days won't last forever. I'll take them whenever I can.

Crockpot Chicken & Bean Soup

I made this last night for dinner and it was a hit, even with my kids. This is another Pinterest find. However, I can't find the original link to the recipe on Pinterest so I am not sure who came up with this recipe or where the picture came from. There's no name for it either, so I just called it what it is Crockpot Chicken & Bean soup.

Crockpot Chicken & Bean Soup

1 can of Rotel (just pour it all into the crockpot)
1 can of corn (pour it all in the crockpot)
1 can of black beans (drained & rinsed)
2 frozen chicken breasts (I loved that I could just throw the frozen chicken breasts in)
8 oz. cream cheese
1 packet dry ranch dressing
1 T. cumin
1 t. onion powder
1 t. chili powder.

Put all ingredients in crock pot and cook 6-8 hours.
Shred chicken, and enjoy!

I would double the recipe next time, it was barely enough for everyone. It was very tasty. Even the kids loved it. It would be yummy with some tortilla strips in it. This is perfect for those cold, wintery days.

Cowboy Caviar

I made this for a Christmas get together and it was a big hit. Guess where I found the recipe??!! You guessed it, Pinterest. It's called Cowboy Caviar. On Pinterest, the recipe is different than it is on the original link. You can find the original recipe here.

Here is the recipe that was posted on Pinterest. The recipe on Pinterest is a little easier than the original recipe. It's very simple - take it from me! :)

Cowboy Caviar
2 can of Mexicorn (drained)
1 can of rotel (drained) You can use hot rotel if you want.
2 cups of cheddar shredded cheese
6 green onions (sliced)
1 c. of mayo (I used Miracle Whip)
1 c. of sour cream
1 bag of Scoops Fritos to dip with

Combine all ingredients in a bowl and VIOLA you're done.

The picture below is the one from Pinterest. I had forgotten to take a picture of mine.

It was even good the next day. There was more flavor, but the corn has gotten a little softer. It was super easy to make since all you do is dump everything into a bowl and it makes a lot.

Randomness...

It feels like forever since I've blogged. I wanted to do it before the end of the year. I have had random things I've thought about blogging about; however, I didn't think I had enough for a whole post. So here are my random thoughts:

1. I like Sam Elliot's voice. He's does voice-overs for Dodge. He was Virgil Earp in Tombstone. That's it.

2. I like the "boots tucked into the jeans" look, but I can't pull it off. Firstly, I feel like my calves are too big for most the boots I like. Secondly, my legs are only 3 inches long and if I tucked my jeans into my boots then my legs would only look 1 inch long.

3. I have a severe weakness for snack size Heath candy bars. Yeah, I know you are probably chuckling saying, "Oh, I like ____________." Seriously, I ask for them in my stocking and the whole bag was gone 4 days later, but only in 3 sittings. Ugg.

4. I have another fascination - Pinterest. Those of you already on Pinterest, you understand what I'm saying. It can be a complete time waster, but I have purposed to not let it be. I have been making several craft projects from Pinterest, which leads me to #5.

5. I found out I LOVE Mod Podge, which for some reason I always pronounce Modge Podge. I have been making coasters and Christmas ornaments with Mod Podge. I found another thing I am going to try to make for some birthday gifts. Can't say what they are yet because I have a friend who has a birthday coming up! :)

6. I have also found a little joy in cooking. I used to really dislike cooking. It's probably because I felt like I had no idea what I was doing in the kitchen. I felt that because I really had no idea what I was doing in the kitchen. I hardly ever let the kids cook or bake with me because I just felt inadequate. However, thanks to Pinterest, I have found some recipes that have been hits and it has spurned me onto trying more.

I am putting together a cookbook I saw on a video during my Called to be a Keeper bible study. The woman suggested making two cookbooks. One cookbook would be a tried and true cookbook. It would be full of recipes that my family or I enjoy. The other would be a try-out cookbook. It would be full of recipes that I would like to try out. I spent last night trying to get these two cookbooks together. Now I have a place to put those recipes I have torn out of magazines and just laid in random places.

Right before Christmas, I spent the afternoon making some Pinterest recipes with my daughter for a Christmas get together. It was so fun!! My daughter had a lot of fun too and I thought to myself, "Why haven't I done this sooner?" She doesn't care if I am a good cook (not yet anyway). She just wants to spend that time with me doing something new and interesting.

I'll be posting a couple of recipes I tried that were hits on the blog in the very near future.

7. My hair is getting longer and I do not like it. I need to chop it off, but I haven't found a haircut that I like yet. I believe my hair is like it was in 1990 sans 2 inches in bangs. The gray hair is coming in like a beast. I am considering rocking the Stacy London look. She has that elegant gray streak in front (well I'm calling it elegant). What do you think???

8. I am dreading the timeline move on Facebook. I am seeing it more and more when I go to individual's profile. I am still not used the other newsfeed change they did a couple of months ago.

9. I got a new car just before Thanksgiving. My old car, a Nissan Altima, just wasn't dependable anymore. I got a 2010 Honda Accord. This is the newest car I've ever owned. It only had 8,700 miles on it when I got it. I would have driven my Altima until it absolutely died. Even with it's leaking trunk, cracked windshield, oil dripping engine, and broken cd player, it was still a good car - to me anyway. However, now that it's gone and I'm driving around in my new car, I have to say that I do enjoy my new car. A. Lot! Thanks officer!

10. A lot of blogging time has been taken up with my coupon page, Treasure Hunt for Coupons. It has a lot of fun. I love to hear when someone has gotten a great deal or saved a lot of money. I need to do better balancing this blog with the coupon page because a lot of fun stuff has happened that I haven't blogged about because me trying to keep up with the coupon page during the holiday season.

11. I am sad that one of my friends has moved away. They knew they were most likely going to be moving this year, and it finally happened this month. My friend, Mrs. S, shared my love of Sonic's Vanilla Coke and Panera Bread. Her family was one of the sweetest families I know. I will miss her and her family.

That's it. See each thing only amounted to a paragraph or two, but not a whole blog post. So what are your New Year plans? I am taking down the Christmas tree and going to try to get our house back to normal. My son walked out of his room on December 26 and said, "Here." He gave me back the two gingerbread men and a Christmas tree he had in his room. He said, "Christmas is over so here are you decorations. Thanks mom." My daughter is hanging onto her Christmas decorations in her room until I pack them away. :)

I hope you've had a Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year.

New Birthday

My son, who just turned 9 has a new birthday. Or at least he has another birthday. Today, November 27, 2011, is his spiritual birthday.

You know that I have had some questions on my heart and God had given me reassurance. I am so thankful to God that he hears my prayers and knows the desires of my heart.

This morning as we were got into our seats in "big church", my son leaned over to me and said, "Mommy, I invited Jesus into my heart this morning!" Like a well-prepared mother I said, "What???" He repeated himself. "I invited Jesus into my heart this morning in Sunday School." I replied, "Oh, okay. Can we talk about this at home?" I am kind of in shock. It was the last thing I had expected to hear this morning. It's usually, "I need to go to the restroom." or "Can I go get bulletins for all of us?"

I asked him to tell his daddy. He leaned over and told the officer. Tears welled up in the officers eyes and he was so excited. The officer sat down and asked him a few questions. He handled it much better than I did. The officer was talking to my son about going down to pray with a deacon at the end of the service. I needed a time-out. I need to make sure my son knew what he was doing.

The officer suggested we go out to talk with our son. We left the service and found a quiet room to talk. I asked him exactly what happened in Sunday school. He said the Sunday School teacher had asked if anyone wanted to pray as ask Jesus into their heart. My son said, "I wanted to do it last week, but I didn't do it. This week when he asked, I thought, now is my chance to do this." We asked my son if he knew what he asking Jesus into his heart meant. He told us it meant he wanted to follow Jesus. He knew he what sin was and that he was a sinner. He knew that Jesus died on the cross to take care of all his sins. We told him now it is our job to help him learn how to follow and get to know Christ.

My son had not said anything to us last week about wanting to pray. We have always told him what we believe about God but that he would have to make his own personal decision about whether he wanted to follow God and have a personal relationship with him. Since we talked several weeks ago, I felt certain my son knew what he was doing.

Before bed tonight, I asked my son, "Are you sure you understand what you did today?, Are you sure you don't want to wait until you understand a little more?" He replied, "I know what I did and I don't want to wait because I understand it mommy!"

Can there be a great joy in my heart right now? It's hard to imagine, except maybe when my girl makes her decision too.

So now both of my son's birthday's are in November, his physical birth and his spiritual birth. Please pray for us to have knowledge on how to guide our son grow in his relationship with God. Thank you for all of those have joined with us to pray for our children.

bedtime conversations with my son

1 Peter 5:7-9
Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.

For the past several months I have been weighed down by questions in my head and on my heart. I'm sure any mother asks these questions of herself. Not "Am I doing a good job as a mother?" Not "Am I measuring up to what others are doing?"

We homeschool our children. This was a decision made long before we had kids. This was actually a decision made before we got married. :) One of the reason we wanted to homeschool our children was to be able to teach them about our beliefs, values, and about God. We did not want to leave up to other people to do this. There is no judgement if you don't homeschool. Homeschooling was just something God laid on both our hearts to do. If you have a desire to do it, don't think it's out of reach. With
God anything is possible.

Deuteronomy 6:4-9
Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie
down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the door frames of your houses and on your gates.

This verse I have taken literally. I have written scriptures upon my door frames. There are several places in our house where we have verses. This verse has been a foundation of our homeschooling. Although I have turned more toward survival mode in that too. Has that happened to anyone else?

Anywho....

I have been asking myself, "Am I doing what I wanted to do? Am I teaching my children about the love of God? Am I helping them get to the point where they will
have a personal relationship with God? Am I doing my part in helping pass on a legacy of faith? Am I being intentional about my parenting or am I just trying survive the day and complete today's to do list?"

I have been slacking terribly in all areas (except the cooking area, thanks to Pinterest, I am picking up in that area a little.) I have been praying to God that he will give me a little clarity. A little bit more insight. Some practical solutions. My kids have been begging for it. There has been strife in our household. I like to delude myself and say it's just "the kids" being whiny, complaining and not listening. When really it is me who sets the tone for the day in our house. And I am not a morning person, so
it's not very often that the "tone" of the day is a joyous one. It's more of a "I could really use a Route 44 Vanilla Coke from Sonic" at 7 a.m. kind of morning. All my "stuff" is reflected back to through my kids.

Anyway, tonight as with many other nights that I have declined, my son asked me to lay down with him. Tonight I did.

I will say my God has not forgotten me. He knows my heart. He knew I needed to hear my son say things tonight. He knew I needed to hear my son affirm some of the things we have tried to teach him. It happened even before the bedtime conversation. As we were driving home from cub scouts, my son was just talking about how he loves
animals. He said, "I love animals. They are my third favorite thing!" I replied, "They are your third favorite thing? What are number one and number two?" He said, "I love God/Jesus first, then you guys, my family, next, then animals." I don't know who doesn't want to hear that from their son.

My son turns nine this week. You can read about his arrival into this world here. Sometimes, this is still how I see him....

as a 4 lb. 8 oz. baby, instead of this:

He is a sweet boy. He is kind-hearted. He is sensitive. He is trustworthy. He is respectful. He is protective. He is well-mannered. He has a great sense of humor. He has a great memory. He is imaginative. He has his daddy's servant heart. He stands firm in his beliefs.

He loves Legos. He loves rocks. He love animals. He loves tae kwon do. He has the greatest laugh. He loves to tell jokes. He loves to sleep in a nest of pillows and blankets. He loves his family.

Things my son shared with me tonight:

I am so thankful God make me healthy even though I was small.

I think you do a great job at coupons mom!

I am really thankful I have a sister, even if she really, really, really really frustrates me.

I am glad I can ask God for forgiveness. I am glad God took my sin away.

I really want to learn more Bible verses. They can help me out when I am frustrated or tempted.

I like Bibleman because he always uses Bible verses to fight the bad guys.

I really like spending time with you mom.

I love you mom.

I have thanked God tonight for knowing me so well and knowing the desires of my heart. He knows the needs I have and meets them even if I don't know I need them met. Did that make sense? I don't have the words to articulate my feelings/thoughts as well as others do. Good thing that doesn't matter to God.

Psalms 55:22
Cast your burden on the Lord and He will sustain you
...

Unexpected things

I can't believe it's been almost a month since I last blogged. Time goes by so fast. It's been a strange few weeks. A portion of yesterday was spent watching tv. If you live in Oklahoma, you know why. Possible tornadoes. There were a few tornadoes that touched down in southern Oklahoma. That wasn't unexpected though. Everyone who lives in Oklahoma knows to expect them.

What was unexpected was the earthquake that happened around 9:45 p.m in the middle of the thunderstorm. I believe it was a 4.7. I thought it was just heavy thunder until the house kept moving.

We have had earthquakes in Oklahoma before, at least that's what my friends on the other side of town have said. The night before, we had an earthquake that was a 5.2. The officer and I were just sitting in the front room talking. We heard a rumble and thought it was the super loud exhaust trucks that drive through the neighborhood. Then the ceiling fan started to shake and my daughter started to cry. It was a very strange feeling. Unexpected.

Isaiah 54:10
Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed," says the LORD, who has compassion on you.

My mother came over yesterday for her weekly reading books time with my kids. She brought over this strange thing. She says she's pretty sure I "can't kill it" just because she hasn't killed it yet.

I remember seeing plants alive in our house as we grew up. My experience with plants has been this and this. Also we had a garden box which yielded several sunflowers and two zucchinis. They survived because I didn't have to take care of it. I have long thrown the aquaglobes away that my mom gave me. Fortunately, I've heard that I don't have to water this plant very often. There may be hope yet.

I Corinthians 3:7
So neither he who plants is anything nor he who waters, but only God who makes is grow and become greater.

There is other big news in my life.

No, not pregnant.

I find it funny that I am sharing this news in my blog post about earthquakes and my lack of a green thumb, but it falls under the "unexpected things" category so it fits.

If you've followed this blog very long, you probably know I was adopted. You can read the story here. My mother adopted my sister and me from Korea. I was left on the steps of a police station. I never knew how big of a role policemen would play in my life. They knew how old I was because I still had my umbilical cord. I am often asked if I would ever want to find my birth parents. Truthfully, I have never had that desire. Part of it may be because of the way I was found, I think it would be next to impossible to find my birth parents. God may have not made that desire so strong in my heart because of that reason. I don't know.

A few years ago, my mom found out the orphange,
Ilmagwon Orphange, was still around and contacted them. They had new pictures of my sister and me that we had never seen. It was amazing.

My mother shared with me a couple of weeks ago that she would like to take me and my two sisters back to Korea for a visit. She has contacted the orphanage again. The man who runs the orphange today is the son of the woman who ran it was my sister and I were there. Our Korean last name was Park (much like "Smith" and "Jones" in America). It was the last name of the woman who ran the orphange. She is 90 years old and still alive.
Today, Ilmagwon Orphange is based upon Christianity. All the children who live their now go to Sunday school. Unexpected.

We may get the opportunity to go back to orphange and do some kind of mission work. Many people have asked me whether I have wanted to go back to Korea. Again, this has never been a strong desire of my heart. I may be Korean looking on the outside and except for my love of kimbobs, I am completely westernized. Since this trip is becoming a reality, the desire to go back to Korea and see where I came from is growing. Amazing. Unexpected.

We plan to go sometime in June for ten days. I am already working on trying to get my passport. I am the only one of us who does not have one. Outside of being born in Korean and going to Mexico for 1 hour to eat lunch, I haven't been out of the United States. The rest of the plans are being still being discussed, but the excitement for each of us growing. I cannot wait to see what God has planned for us.

Deuteronomy 32:4

He is the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is he.

Psalm 89:2, 8
I will declare that your love stands firm forever, that you established your faithfulness in heaven itself... O LORD God Almighty, who is like you? You are mighty, O LORD, and your faithfulness surrounds you.

Isaiah 25:1
O LORD, you are my God; I will exalt you and praise your name, for in perfect faithfulness you have done marvelous things, things planned long ago.

That's what I get

My son is selling Cub Scout popcorn. He has worked very, very hard over the past month. The officer said, "If you reach $1,000, I will get you a Lego set." My son reached his goal and surpassed it. We purchased the Lego set last night. It's a Ninjago Lego construction set with over 1,000 pieces in it.

Last night he opened the box and put together all the mini-figures. I said, "When you wake up in the morning, you can work on the actual set." He was content to play with his new mini-figures and wait until morning. This morning at 5:30 a.m. (that's right 5:30 a.m.) we heard footsteps run into our room and then quickly run out. The officer laughed and said, "He's already up and ready to do his Lego set." I think I just moaned. I laid there for about 10 minutes and then decided to get up to make my Pinterest Sticky Buns. We'll get back to that in a minute.

I wanted to tell my son he could get up and work in the front room. I walked to my daughter's room to close the door so the light wouldn't disturb her. She wasn't in her room. She was in her brother's room. They were excitedly chatting about the Lego set. I opened the door and there they both sat, in the middle of the room with Legos all around them. I asked my son what time he woke up. I figured he probably woke up around 5:15 a.m. and then ran in our room 10 minutes later. No. He said, "I woke up at 4:01 a.m." What? I asked my daughter what time she woke up. My son said, "She woke up at around 5:20 a.m." She was the one that ran into our room. I am not quite sure what kind of day we are going to have since my son woke up at 4:01 a.m., my daughter woke up at 5:20 a.m., and I woke up at 5:30 a.m. :) The officer was up and
in the shower, but he's used to waking up around 5 a.m.

I decided to make the Pinterest Sticky Buns this morning. They were so easy to make - and yummy!

Pinterest Sticky Buns

1 bundt pan
Pam cooking spray

1 can of Grands Biscuits
1/2 cup of syrup
3 T. of melted butter
1/2 t. of cinnamon
1/3 c. of packed brown sugar
1/2 c. of chopped almonds or pecans (optional)

Spray Pam in your bundt pan. Combine the melted butter and the syrup. Set aside.
Combine cinnamon and brown sugar. Pour 1/2 of the syrup/butter mixture into the bottom of the bundt pan. Next, pour half of the brown sugar mixture around the bundt pan. You would also put in half of your nuts in here if you use them.Lay the biscuits around the bundt pan slightly overlapping.

The picture shown has more biscuits in it than what I did. I only used a can of Grands with 8 biscuits. You can do more, but it will take longer to cook. Pour the remaining syrup mixture and brown sugar mixture on top of the biscuits. Top with nuts. Bake at 375 degrees for 15 minutes. Cool for 1 minute. Flip over onto a plate and

VIOLA!

Okay, my presentation doesn't look the best, but they were yummy. Especially right out the oven and warm. Is this what people accomplish when they wake up at 5:30 a.m.? Hmmm... interesting.

I Heart Pinterest

I know you've heard me mention Pinterest before so I won't go into detail about what it is. It has inspired me to try a few do--it-yourself craft projects. Last night I decided to try a few of the easy recipes.

Last night I made the Nutella Cookies. The recipe only calls for 4 ingredients. Surely, I will not/cannot mess this up.

Recipe for Nutella Cookies.

1/2 c. sugar
1 whole egg
1 c. flour
1 c. Nutella

Combine 1/2 c. sugar with egg. Gradually add the 1 c. of flour. Lastly, add the 1 c. of Nutella. The dough will be crumbly. Form dough into round balls and smash flat with a glass. Bake for 6-8 minutes at 350 degree. Simple. One person suggested not adding the sugar because it was sweet enough without the sugar. I didn't do that, but I can see trying that next time.

Here's my cookies. They are very good! I need to make sure I blend the dough with the Nutella a little better next time, but it did not affect the yummy taste of the cookies. This recipe was easy, cheap, and quick.

Today I decided to try another Pinterest recipe. The blogger From the Aisle to Aloha did not have a name for her recipe so I'm just calling them the Bacon, Green Onion, Cream Cheese, Crescent Rolls Poppers. How's that??? This recipe, amazingly enough only has 4 ingredients too. Apparently, 4 ingredients is the magic number for me! :)

Recipe for
Bacon, Green Onion, Cream Cheese, Crescent Rolls Poppers

4-6 strips of bacon, cooked and crumbled (depends on how much bacon you want)
3-4 green onions (chopped)
1 pgk. of cream cheese
8 crescent rolls

Combine the bacon, green onions & cream cheese in a bowl. Roll out your crescent rolls out and cut them in half. Add the cream cheese mixture to the middle of the crescent roll. Pull together all the ends of the crescent roll and twist. Seal the sides together (the mixture will ooze out if you don't). Bake for 10-15 minutes at 350 degrees.

I had trouble with cutting the crescent rolls. My Poppers turned out all different sizes, but they all tasted YUMMY!

They are very hot when they come out of the oven, so don't just wait for 1 minute before you pop the whole thing in your mouth or you will burn your tongue. I'm just sayin'.

There are several other Pinterest recipes I want to try, but they have more than 4 ingredients, so I'm probably going to have someone else with me (hint, hint Mrs. Courtney - she'll touch all the raw meat that needs to be touched!) :)

Last thing: I find it interesting that with over 400 posts on this blog only 14 of them have to do with cooking. Only 4 (now 5 if you include this post) posts are recipes I've shared because they actually worked. 1 post had to do with me burning brownies, which unfortunately isn't uncommon. However, there are cooking victories. :) Maybe with the help of Pinterest, you may see a few more easy recipes on this blog.

X marks the spot

My daughter and I were driving home last night. My daughter was staring at the clouds out her window. She saw the contrails (yeah, I had to look up for correct name) left behind from airplanes in the sky.

She said, "X marks the spot."

"What does "X" mark?", I asked.

She simply replied, "Where God is."

I asked her, "What is God doing right now."

"He's watching over me, making sure we don't get in a car accident."

I'm not sure if she was making a comment about my driving. I'm going to choose to believe she was just making an observation about God watching out for her.

She pulled her other front tooth out today. Brother promised her a dime if she did it. I'm calling her my little Jack-O-Lantern.

Called to be a Keeper

I've started an new Bible study at church. I missed last week so I am doing a bit of catch up. It's called Called To Be a Keeper. It's by Lori Merrill. I am not very familiar with the study, but there were several things that caught my attention.

Last week's lesson was about making God your # 1 priority. I completely, honestly admit, I do not always do this. One of the examples given was the story about Jesus visiting Mary and Martha (Luke 10:38-42). Jesus and his disciples visited Mary and Martha. Martha was very, very busy with all the preparations that had to be made, while Mary just sat at the feet of Jesus and listened to him talk. Martha complained to Jesus, asking him to tell Mary to help her. Jesus told her to not worry about all the preparations. He told her Mary was doing the right thing. As one of the women in my class said, many times the preparations are done with good intentions. However, we get so distracted by them, we are unable to just sit and listen to what Jesus is trying to teach us.

I think it is very easy at mothers to do this. We have homework to help with, laundry to be folded and put away, diapers to change, meals to cook, dishes to do, papers to sign, and the list goes on and on. Less often than we should, we do not take the time to just be with God and listen to him. I know that when I get wrapped up in the day to day things, they sometimes become a drudgery. I don't realize the blessings many of day to day things are. They are in a good disguise sometimes though. A lot of laundry means, I don't have to worry about my kids having clean clothes to wear. A lot of dishes means, we ate a good meal. A house that needs to be picked up, well at least we have a house and things inside it that have to be picked up.

Isaiah 58:11

"The Lord will guide you always;
He will satisfy your needs in the sun scorched land
and will strengthen your frame.
You will be like a well-watered garden,
like a spring whose waters never fail."

The lesson tonight also talked about journaling as a way to grow spiritually. I thought that was interesting. Any of you who are reading this knows I like to journal. Two quotes that stood out to me tonight about journaling.

"Journaling memorializes the blessings of God."

Satan wants to trap us in today by making us forget what God has done for us yesterday.
"

I know I can look back, and hopefully one day my children can look back and see all the ways God has blessed our family. It's unending. It's amazing.

So all of you ladies out there. Be encouraged. There are others who are going through the same things you are going through. There are other mothers who let their children eat cereal for dinner. There are other mothers who yelled at their children out of frustration and then immediately regretted it. There are other mothers sat for an hour on Pinterest instead of reading their kids a book. Gasp! :)

The one thing that will never change is we serve a God who's love
never fails us. He longs to spend time with us. He longs for us to get to know Him. He has more patience, grace, and mercy than I know I can ever show my kids.

So....

Hebrews 10:24, 25

"And let us consider how we may spur one another on
toward love and good deeds.
Let us not give up meeting together,
as some are in the habit of doing,
but let us encourage one another...."

Hi. My name is.....

It's that time of year again. We are selling Cub Scout popcorn. We've done this for the past two years. Each year, my son has donned his Cub Scout uniform, grabbed his popcorn order form and has pounded the pavement.

Each year, he kind of forgets how much he likes it. Sometimes there a bit of complaining about having to get dressed, but once he is in his Cub Scout uniform his demeanor changes. I have a feeling when he "grows up" his job will require a uniform.

I've gone around the neighborhood several times with him this year. I love it. I love to see him at work. "They" say homeschoolers are shy, awkward, and "weird", but this is not something I see in my son. He is a little nervous. Nervous he will forget all the information he has to say.

"Hi. My name is _______. I'm selling Cub Scout popcorn to raise money so we can do activities. Would you like to buy some?"

If they look at the order form, "If you order today, I have to collect the money today. Checks will not be turned in until mid-October."

If they purchase popcorn, "The popcorn will come in on November 12." He's nervous he might say it comes in mid- October and and the checks will be turned in November 12th. It's understandable.

Before we began, we talked about what to do. My son likes to be prepared and know everything possible beforehand.

1. Walk up the driveway and do not touch the cars.
2. Look for "No Solicitors" signs. It means they do not want you to sell them anything.
3. Ring the doorbell. Step back 2 steps and wait 10 seconds.
4. If no one answers the doorbell, knock.
5. If no one answers the doorbell, walk back down the driveway.
6. If someone answers the door, start with, "Hi. My name is ______."
7. If they say "No", then say "Thank you very much" and walk away.

Last night I took my son to sell his popcorn. He was very excited to get into his Cub Scout uniform because he had received several achievements at his last pack meeting. He put them on his belt, and I have to say he did look quite handsome.

The officer took my daughter on an ice cream date. As they were walking out of the house, my daughter had her Heelys on, but was carrying her pink roller skates. I said, "Why do you have your roller skates?" She said, "When I am done with the ice cream date, I am going to roller skates with you guys!"

My son had his popcorn order form on his clipboard and his pen in his pocket ready to go. There was a little more motivation this time because at the last pack meeting the leaders had said one of the top three prizes was a $100 Lego store giftcard. Lego bricks were dancing in his eyes.

We drove to spot where he left off last time. Many people weren't home. I would say this time only about 1/3 of the people who answered their doors purchased popcorn. I loved watching him though. He is in his element. He is not discouraged when people say no thank you. Some people say they don't have the money right now. Others say, I've already purchased some. One lady said she can't eat popcorn. He just politely says, "Okay, Thank you!" and runs down the driveway.

I did notice something though. When my son would ring the doorbell and we would hear dogs bark, he would knock and then come back quickly. He said, "When I hear dogs barking, I count to 10 a little quicker." He doesn't like the small, yappy dogs (this is due to our neighbors dog chasing and nipping at his heals when he was three).

I did get in trouble though. After about five house, the officer and my daughter came back. They drove down the street until they found us and out she hopped with her pink roller skates on. As my son went house to house selling his popcorn, my daughter and I were on the sidewalks. I watched my son at the doors and my daughter while she would skate three houses away on the sidewalk. When she would skate back to me, she would fling herself into me. I would tickle her and we would laugh. After the second house of this happening, my son came down the driveway and said, "Mom, no one wants to be at their door and see a hyper mom and sister on their sidewalk." Yikes. I think we were being distracting. We straightened up after that. No more loud giggling.

So we will go out and sell more popcorn. We'll be asking many of you who read this so get ready. :) His goal is $1,000. I think he can do it. He is almost half way there.

I love watching him. I love seeing him in his uniform. I love seeing him walk up to the doors with the clipboard in his hand and looking for "No Soliciting" sign. I love seeing him count with his fingers to 10 so I know how fast he is counting (I told him to slow down). I love hearing him say, "Hi. My name is ______." I love hearing him say, "I have a pen." and taking the one from his pocket to give to them. I love hearing him say, "Thank you!" and run down the driveway. He's totally comfortable and in his element.

He has grown up from the two years ago when we started, which seemed like yesterday. Too fast people, too fast.

Whatever...

She wouldn't say this, but one of my daughter's favorite words is "Whatever!"

Not in the sarcastic, roll the eyes kind of "Whatever!"

Not in the loud, obnoxious kind "WHATEVER!"

I have kept a list of my daughter's running vocabulary on this blog. I haven't kept up with it as much as I wish I would have.

Often times during the day, you can hear/see my daughter trying to figure out a particular word.

She will say, "It's horrible, It's horribibble, It's HORRIBIBBLE!" , "whatever."

She knows she has the word wrong, but she can't think of the correct word, so she just smiles and says "Whatever."

I love it. She's not bothered by the fact that she can't think of the word. She just says, "Whatever." Honestly, I haven't corrected a lot of mistakes because one day her vocabulary will be correct, but not this day. This day I will treasure all the "boranges, polka docks, froggies, scarfs, clockulators, encycle, and crack backers I can get.

This week on the island

I haven't written a "this week on the island" post in two months. I thought I would catch you up to what has been going on the island.

I haven't written much this past month because I started a coupon page on
Facebook and have done several coupon classes. It has taken up a lot of time. I have thoroughly enjoy it. Although it has been summer time, school still continued on the island. At the end of summer, people would ask my children "Are you ready for school to start?" They would reply, "We're homeschooled, we never stopped." They didn't think a thing about it. Until people kept asking them. I finally had to tell them during the summer most kids do not go to school, they are heading back to school now. I still don't think the quite grasp what it means because school all year around is just the way it has been. Don't get me wrong, we take days to go to the lake, the zoo, the science museum, and have playdates. School is scaled back; however, it is still a priority during the summer.

However, we are in full swing of the "school year". We are back to our regularly scheduled program. We have gymnastics,
tae kwon do, cub scouts, soccer, and homeschool co-op. We enjoy it and wouldn't have it any other way.

My cousin, Julie, came over this past weekend and painted on my son's wall. She's very artistic and does beautiful work. She has a website, Ocean Graphic Design and does all kinds of cool things. Check her out. About a month ago, I asked her to paint the five tenants of
tae kwon do on canvases and the words "Tae Kwon Do" on my son's wall. She did some beautiful work. I will insert pictures later when we get the canvases hung on the wall.

I going to admit I am kind of addicted to Pinterest. It's a virtual pinboard. When you find things on the Internet you love, you can "pin it" to your pinboard. It is what motivated me to start on decorating my son's room and my daughter's room. I am trying some craft projects I found on Pinterest too. It's been a lot of fun.

This past week we took a day to go to the lake. The weather has cooled off quite a bit and we wanted to take advantage of the nice weather. We went to the Toy & Action Figure Museum in Pauls Valley. For some reason, I thought it was free. It wasn't. We went in anyway. It was very neat. Very geared toward boys. They had a TON of Batman, Superman, Marvel Comic figures, DC figures, GI Joes, and Star War toys. They had a neat area where you could dress up in costumes and play with some of the toys. They had a very small doll house and a few Barbies tucked away in the corners for the poor sisters who were dragged along.

After the Toy Museum, we went to the lake. It was a perfect day to be on the boat. It was a little chilly to swim, but the kids did anyway. It was nice to just get away and relax.

On the way home, we stopped at Arbuckle Mountain Fried Pies to eat dinner. The last time the officer and a friend went fishing, they stopped and ate fried pies. The officer brought a couple home for us to try, but they mysteriously disappeared before we were able to try them. So we stopped for fried pies. The kids split a pizza fried pie and a chocolate fried pie. The officer had a chicken and vegetable fried pie and a cherry fried pie. I ordered a breakfast fried pie and a pecan pie fried pie (that sounds redundant). They were good, but something didn't sit well with out kids. At 1 a.m. and 2 a.m., our children were up with upset stomachs. No more pizza fried pies for them. :)

We went to our first day of homeschool co-op last week. The kids loved it. We have changed locations, but I think it's going to work out great. It is nice they are making new friends.

I have a coupon class this weekend. I think there are 17 people coming (picture me chewing on my fingernails). I usually like my classes smaller, around 10 people or less. However, I am excited about teaching new people how to save money!!

So that's all. I'm going to try to get better about posting because I can't even remember what all we did this summer because I didn't blog during the summer. :(

I hope you had a great summer!!!

9-11

President Obama read the following today during the Memorial. So thankful that even though no prayers were allowed, President Obama read this:

PSALMS 46

God is our refuge and strength,
and ever-present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
and the mountains fall in to the heart of the sea,
though its waters roar and foam
and the mountains quake with their surging.

There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
the holy place where the Most High dwells.
God is within her, she will not fall;
God will help her at the break of day.
Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall;
he lifts his voice, the earth melts.

The Lord Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.

Come an d see the works of the Lord,
the desolations he has brought on the earth.
He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth;
he breaks the bow and shatters the spear,
he burns the shields with fire.
"Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations.
I will be exalted in the earth."

The Lord Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.

Thank you to Pa, Brandon, Jamin, Aaron, Dave, and all of the others who have served and serve so we can have the freedom to serve our God.

God is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow no matter what happens.

He is in control and He will be glorified.

DIY Coasters

I made a craft, thanks to Pinterest! :)
It's a fairly inexpensive craft to make with so many possibilities. I made coasters.
Here the are items you need:
3x3 coaster (or whatever size you like) from Home Depot (.16 each)
Mod Podge (my new favorite item $4.99 for an 8 oz. bottle )
Scrapbook paper (often found on sale at Hobby Lobby)
Sponge brushes (4 pk. .99 @ Hobby Lobby)
Small felt pads (75 ct. for $2.95)
Credit card (used for smoothing down the paper onto your tile)
Instructions:
1. Trace an outline of the coasters on the back of the scrapbook paper. Since it's a square, you can't mess it up!
2. Wipes off your tile so it's nice and clean. Brush Mod Podge over the tile.
3. Lay the scrapbook paper on top of the tile and smooth down with the credit card to get all the air bubbles out.
4. Let it sit for a couple of minutes.
5. Go over the top of the tile and sides of the tile with Mod Podge to seal it.
6. Let sit for 15 minutes and then go over it again. You can do several layers.
7. You can use a Clear Acrylic Top Coat to seal it if you want.
and
Viola!
I actually made the "K" first and did not go over it with the credit card to smooth it out. I can see air bubbles in it. It's not bothering me.

It's not bothering me at all......
much.

I'll have to ask Baby...

Wow. Long time, no write.

Putting an end to that now.

Yesterday, I was driving home from soccer practice with my daughter. I was singing her a little song I always sing for her.

"I love you,_________ (insert her name)
Oh, yes I do!
I love you, _________
and I'll be true.

When you're not with me,
I'm BLUUUUUUEEEEE!!!

Oh ______________
I love you!!!"

I stopped and said, "Are you going to save that song and sing it to your daughter when you have a little girl?"

My daughter replied, "I'm not going to name her ____________, because then we will have the same name, so I can't sing her that song!"

"No, you will name your daughter something else and you will just put her name where I say your name, like:

I love you, Molly,
Oh, yes I do!
I love you, Molly
and I'll be true."

My daughter is still just staring at me like she has no idea what I'm singing about so I go on....

"If you name your daughter Lisa, you would sing:

I love you, Lisa
Oh, yes I do!
I love you, Lisa
and I'll be true."

I think she's getting it now so I sing one more verse (maybe just because I want to and not because she doesn't understand). This time I put in a longer name.

"I love you, Condoleeza
Oh, yes I do.
I love you, Condoleeza
and I'll be true."

My daughter starts laughing hysterically.

She said, "CONDOLEEZA! That's a long name. I'll never remember that. I'll have to ask my baby what her name is!!!"

So for now simple names is what she has decided her six kids (it's gone down from 15 kids).

The names she has come up with so far for her children:

French Fry
Blowfish
Sam

Lord Help Them! :)

it's been a while

It's been a while since I have posted and I really wanted to have a good update post since it's been so long, but I don't have one yet.

Sad, but the only reason I am posting right now is to show you this:

I am pretty sure I have told you about my fondness for unusually large or small things. I literally get goosebumps when I see them. I saw these in the grocery store a couple of months ago. Granted my hand is not large or even medium, but that is one BIG marshmallow! Just in case you are wondering you can cut it in fourths and it is sufficient for half a smore!

Did you get goosebumps too? No? Just me then?

That's okay.

it has come to an end...

Well the journey has come to an end. I won't lie it has been a long one. I am certain the officer nor I would have come out of unscathed unless people had not prayed for us.

The journey started over 10 weeks ago. As soon as I heard the news the officer had torn the ligament in his hand I knew we would need prayer. It was going to be a long process. He was going to have the surgery, 2 weeks in a splint, 4 weeks in a cast, and then despite what the officer had heard/wanted/desperately desired 8 weeks of physical therapy.

It started 10 weeks ago with the surgery. That in and of itself went great. We have a big thanks to my mom for watching the kids so the officer could come home and rest.

I am pretty sure I already posted these pictures of the officer in one of the other posts, but he's so cute I need to post them again.

It was hard for the officer to have the splint. There was quite a bit of pain and the splint didn't make him feel as secure as the cast did that he wouldn't tweak his thumb accident. The first week or so we did pretty good. He was very relieved to get the cast on. He chose bright orange for his favorite college team - the OSU cowboys. He had wanted to put a big OSU on the front of the cast. However, he just ended up letting the kids draw all over the cast.

The time with the cast is when I didn't do so great.

I'm not going lie, it was hard sometimes. I did not ke
ep my patience. There were a few eyes rolls. There were several huffy breathes. There might even been some things done begrudgingly. Please don't ask the officer. He'll try to say something nice, but really I failed miserably. :( Good thing the officer is forgiving. He pretty much is the one who always apologizes first. He doesn't hold grudges, like I do.

Finally, he got his cast off four weeks ago. The doctor told him he would have to do 8 weeks of physical therapy. Did the officer listen? No. When the physical therapist told him what exercises to do at home, he did them. Religiously. He always has his stress ball with him everywhere he goes, so he can work his hand.

He went back to the physical therapist on Tuesday. The physical therapist said he looked "GREAT!" He signed a note saying he looked "great" so the officer could give it to the doctor. He went to the doctor Wednesday morning, and the doctor cleared him to go back to work. He went straight from the doctor's office to the gun range to qualify. Of course, he did great.

Only the officer would turn 8 weeks of physical therapy into 4. Well that's not exactly true, he will continue to go to physical therapy to work on the dexterity of his thumb, but he is back at work.

Last night we ate at one our favorite places, Earls, to celebrate.

The french fry is supposed to be a bull ring.

a happy officer

Today was the officer's first official day back at work and.... He loved it.

So .... thank you to Ken, Brandon, Mike, Josh, and Ray for mowing our lawn. Thank you Mom and Grandma with the Sunglasses for watching the kids so we have an occasional lunch date. Thank you Jill for listening to me. Thank you to all my friends and family who prayed for us.

Mostly thank you God for putting your hand of protection on the officer when he crashed that he wasn't hurt more. Thank you God for healing the officer's hand quickly and correctly. Thank you God for always providing for us just when we needed it. Isn't it amazing how God does that?
