birthday celebration

yesterday was kind of a busy day. it was my son's birthday. we had to complete school and pick up the house. that in and of itself is enough to make any day busy.

we asked my son what he would like to eat for his birthday dinner. he requested earls. the officer doesn't like going downtown at rush hour so we left about 3:30 p.m. to go eat.

something you need to know about earls. the motorcycle officer often go into earls to eat lunch. the staff and all the managers know my husband by site in his uniforms. they also know him out of his uniform which means he goes there a LOT! people who see the officer in his uniform, often do not recognize him out of uniform.

last night when we went in, the manager said hi and asked why we had come. we said it was our son's 7th birthday and he choose to eat at earls. they were excited he chose to eat there. they sat us at the "private birthday table". (there is not private birthday table, but they made my son feel special.) my son ordered a hamburger. he likes their kids meals because they come with a root beer float. he got a special treat because he got to have his first cup of sprite (that wasn't watered down!). they wanted to bring him a 16 oz. root beer float, but since we were having cupcakes at home later, we nixed that. he had his coffee cup root beer float and was happy with it.

when we were paying, they brought out a shirt for my son. it said, "i pigged out for my birthday at earls." it was very sweet of them! it's an adult large, but it wil
l be a good sleep shirt for him. he wants to wear it to his birthday party, but we'll see about that.

when we got home, we did our tradition of making cupcakes. we make cupcakes on our actual birthday days and decorate them. the kids look forward to this time when it's just our little family.

needless to say: sprite + root beer floats + cupcakes = a lot of sugar that has yet to burn out of their system. good thing birthdays are only once a year!
