see mommy.....

**update** for the past two days (today is sunday) my son has put a newer and bigger piece of grass in his sister's cup so she will keep thinking it's growing. don't know how long this will last. he started his own - in the same kind of container and everything - but she know's it's fake. she knows he put his in there and that nothing grew. hmm.....

well most of our smallish collection has died.

the two plants we received in the kid's meal at braums bit the dust. i don't think it had anything to do with me. i just think they ran their course. the small tree limb in the blue cup was thrown away just days later due to dead leaves. i just threw the little bean plant my son had gotten in sunday school away last week. it had started to die too. it lasted 2 months. that's pretty good on treasure's island.

my daughter's grasshead is still kicking. it has survived several "hair" cuts. i've worked very hard at keeping that thing watered.

my daughter came in the other day and said she wanted to plant something. she had an old dentyne gum holder. i asked her if she wanted a bean or something plant.

"no, i'm just going to plant something." she replied.

"honey, you know nothing will actually grow in there if you don't have a seed of some kind."

"yes, it will mommy you just wait and see."

"honey, seriously mommy doesn't know a lot about plants but nothing will grow if you don't put some kind of seed in the dirt."

"yes, it will mommy. i'm going to plant it."

so later in the day on the window sill, i saw her dentyne container complete with sand and filled with water. she had watered it several times. although it would take several days for the water she's putting in there to evaporate.

hmm.... okay - i'll just let it sit there. not going to hurt anything.

my son knows about the whole plant thing. he heard his sister say she wanted to plant something and knows she's fairly certain something will grow.

guess what he did.

while my daughter was at gymnastics last night, he went outside and picked some grass to put into her "plant" so she would think something would grow. he's not doing it to be mean, but he knows his sister expects something to grow, hopes something will grow, and he didn't want her to be disappointed. he has made mommy and daddy promise not to tell her that he did it. yeah i realize if she's ever going to have real plants when she grows up i'll have to tell her what happened, but for now i'm going to let brother be sweet to her.

sure enough, when we came back from gymnastics, she saw her "plant"!

she excitedly called me over to say, "see mommy i told you something would grow. i didn't even put a seed in there!!!!!!!"

How beautiful. Only God can grow that kind of love.
