my kids have been at their grandparents for the last two nights. it's been nice because the officer and i have been able to spend some time together. the officer's parents have a great place a little out in the country. they have some land and a great little fishing pond. my kids LOVE to fish out there with grandma & grandpa.
we were at the movie rental place last night and we got a phone call. it was grandma saying our son wanted to talk to us.
hmm.....
i hope everything is going okay.
my son gets on the phone with the officer.
"dad? can we have a pet worm?" my son asked.
"well..... we'll have to see what we can do." the officer replied.
i get on the phone with my daughter and let her know i found dora: pirate adventure at family video (they have a lot of kid's videos that are free - you don't even have to rent anything to get the kid video). she's very excited about the video because they have been wanting to watch it for a long time, but it's always been gone. however, she gets back on task.
"mommy? can i have a pet worm" she asks.
i think they have both decided to take one parent and see what each will say.
oh yeah - an earthworm!
the officer is picking them up today so i say, "i will leave it up to daddy."
my daughter says, "can i talk to daddy please?"
"daddy? can i have a pet worm? (a lot of giggles) it's crawling ALL over me!"
the officer won't be able to resist. he tells them they can have one but we will have to let it go into the flower bed in a few days.
**update** there is now a blue plastic bowl (the bowl they came in because they were to bait but saved by my children) in my refrigerator with worms in it. i don't even know if they are alive because i haven't looked in there. my kids have not said anything about them. how long do i have to keep them in there???

Tell them to name it "Slimey" like the worm on Sesame Street!
