peanut butter & hershey kiss cookies

earlier in the week i decided to make cookies with the kids. i had seen a picture in the sunday paper of the cookies. i'm sure you've seen or eaten them. they are peanut butter cookies with the hershey kisses on top. last night my daughter and i went to wal-mart to buy the ingredients we didn't have. i was going to have the kids help me make them so we could reiterate the 1 cup, 1/2 cup, 1/4 cup concept.

as i have said before, i am not the greatest cook. whenever i try something new or something i haven't done a while, something inevitably goes wrong.

i had all the ingredients on the table with all the measuring cups and spoons ready to go. we start off good - mixing the butter & sugars. next comes the vanilla & eggs. i know now i should have mixed the dry ingredients in a separate bowl, but i just added them into the "wet" bowl. i added the baking soda & salt and then comes the flour. we had to add 2 1/2 cups of flour in the dough. my son even made a number chart to mark off the number of 1/4 cups we were putting in at a time.

i was stirring the dough and i looked at the chart. okay one more cup to go. however, i thought the dough will be very hard to stir with another whole cup in it. i looked at the 1/4 cup measuring cup we were using and noticed it was not a 1/4 cup we were using it was the 1/2 cup. oh no. we are already 1 cup over what the recipe calls for. i quickly called my friend, k, and she set me at ease. i had messed up but with particular recipe she thought it would be okay.

the recipe said to add the hershey kisses before cooking. however, when i did, the tops of the kisses burned. k told me to wait until they are done and then add the kisses. this worked perfectly.

now the real test will be when the officer comes home and tastes the cookies. of course i will not tell him what happened while we make them before he tastes them until after he eats them. i guess even for someone like me peanut butter cookies rolled in sugar with a hershey kiss on top is hard to get wrong.
