"Team" Day at homeschool group

we had "team" day at our homeschool group today. we had a special guest speaker. his name is gerald mccoy. i knew he was an ou football player but i didn't know who he was until i read on my homeschool blog about him. this is what it said:

All-American Defensive Lineman GERALD McCOY

The imposing 6-foot-4, 297-pound McCoy is the most veteran member of the Sooners’ defense with a team-best 30 career starts. He’s on the watch list for the Bednarik, Lombardi, Nagurski and Outland awards. And he paces the Sooners in tackles for loss with 6.5 and his average of 2.17 stops per game ranks No. 4 nationally. Despite having been considered one of the top prospects for the 2009 NFL Draft, McCoy chose to return to Oklahoma for his junior season. Rivals.com ranked him as the No. 2 defensive tackle in college football in 2009. (i don't really know what most of this mean, but i think it means he's a good player!)

SoonerSports.com - Gerald McCoy

The fact that Gerald McCoy was voted captain of the University of Oklahoma football team his sophomore year speak volumes towards his selflessness and integrity. As the current President of OU's Fellowship of Christian Athletes, McCoy has made a number of speaking appearances at area schools as well as a facility for underprivileged children. His work with the Bridge Builders group on campus included volunteering for Meals on Wheels and collecting toys, gifts, and food for underprivileged families in the Norman area. McCoy has been an active participant in the White Ribbon Campaign, denouncing violence toward women and has been a guest speaker for area Red Cross fundraising. Says McCoy, “If you have one guy that can make a change, and if you get that one guy, and he brings another guy, and those two guys bring two more guys, there’s no telling the limits that can be changed in this world.”

he talked about four important things: 1)keep God first, 2)work hard, 3)stay focused, and 4)have fun! he was very nice and took pictures with all the kids. sorry the picture is pretty bad - i guess the lighting was weird in the room. this is my kid's class.

of course, since it was team day my daughter wore her OU sweatshirt and my son wore his OSU t-shirt. that's them on the end of the front row. of course, since my son was the only one in noticeable OSU gear and he was sitting on the front row, he was called out by gerald. they were both good sports about it.

before he left, gerald signed OU paraphernalia for those who brought it. it was fun!
