my weekend

we had a great weekend. saturday was my birthday. the officer had to work part of the day (mostly evening). we have a family reunion coming up and after a bit of confusion, the decision was made to work part of my birthday so the officer could go to the family reunion. i turned 38 year this year. i truly forget sometimes how old i turned. i think it's 39 most of the time. my mother said i didn't look a day over 21. i told her that now i am closer to 50 than i am to 21 - and have been for some time. OY!

on wednesday we went over to my mother's for a birthday dinner. the food was DELICIOUS, grilled veggies, grilled chicken and pork loin. my mother made me a meat loaf! i can't wait to eat it. she has started doing this every year. i love meat loaf but don't eat it much due to the whole squishy sound the hamburger meat makes when you have to mix it together. i'm cringing now as i write that. yuck! so my sweet mother makes it for me. thanks mom!

when i got up on saturday, the front room was decorated with balloons and a happy birthday banner. i opened my presents which were wrapped in homeland, walgreens, and cvs ads. perfect. the officer took the kids shopping and let them pick me out a little something. my son got me some dryer balls that look like mister steamy. he was very excited about that. this is what i get because my kid watch qubo. :) my daughter got me an apple slicer. the officer got me some small cans of coke (i love things that unusually small or large) and gift cards to walgreens and cvs. love it! oh yeah, my son bought me card but he also made me one. here's the one he made me.

a card made with coupons! cute!

saturday, my mom watched the kids while the officer and i went to see an early morning showing of eclipse. did you know at amc theaters if you go before 10 a.m. the tickets only cost $5 instead of the usual $9 or $10 evening price? we were surprised at how many people were there to see it at 9:40 a.m. after we watched the movie, we picked up the kids and ate at teds. it was a late lunch, very early dinner. even at 2 p.m. they were packed and it NEVER slowed down. turns out eating half a bag of popcorn at the theater didn't make us very hungry for our late lunch/very early dinner. however, teds did make for some excellent leftovers for dinner. when we got back home, i got to take a 2 hour nap. happy birthday to me! :)

sunday the 4th, the officer had to work again all day. he always has to help work the fireworks display downtown. so the kids and i headed up to the officer's parents. my sister-in-law was in town w/ her family so we spent the day with them. i am not a huge "lighting fireworks" person, even though i love to watch them. anything you have to light with a match and run away for fear of losing a finger is just not worth it to me. luckily the officer's sister didn't mind lighting them. my kids just wanted smoke bombs (love the smell of those), super long sparklers, and snaps.

we watched my sil light all hers. it was fun. she didn't mind all the running away.

this year was unusually cool. it even rained for a little over an hour. we were going to let the kids swim, but it was too windy and i thought they would get cold. the rain solved that problem. there was no lightening or thunder, so we let the kids run around in the rain. they were soaked but loved every minute of it.

trying to catch the rain

i know this is completely blurry, but i love this picture.

on the way home, we hit a fireworks show, so we stopped and enjoyed it. my daughter was asleep so i had to wake her up. of course, my daughter had to go to the bathroom at the very end of it. luckily we were in the parking lot of a walgreens, so we ran in. as were coming out, we heard the noises of the finale and ran out. we saw the last couple of displays. my daughter went back to sleep and we were home by 11 p.m.

happy 4th of july to you.

Sounds like a great weekend and birthday!!!

I am so with you on the fireworks and that bums my kids out... I guess I get the excitement, but not at the expense of a finger or anything else. Dave burned his finger really bad one year and just won't do them anymore. :(

Naps are the BEST! Especially, birthday naps! And ... I love Ted's!!!
