this week has been a good week. we've been busy.
monday we took the kids to see toy story 3 in the theater. this is the second movie we've taken them to. it was a lot of fun. if you go to the movie at an amc theater before 11 a.m., the tickets are only $5. i had a coupon for $1 large coke (which you can get free refills) and we purchased a large popcorn (which you can also get free refills on).
the movie was cute. my son liked toy story 2 better than 3, but my daughter loved it. afterward we ate at the mall and ran errands.
tuesday, my daughter had her gymnastics class. no other kids showed up for class, so she basically got a private lesson. she likes it when that happens.
the officer spent monday night and tuesday running last minute errands to finish my car. in the end, the officer saved us about $900 doing most of the car repairs himself. i love that man!
wednesday we went to the lake. we spent the day swimming and relaxing on the lake. it was cloudy and breezy. perfect.
thursday, the officer's mother came down for the day to visit. my kids were soooooo excited for her visit. i don't usually tell them we are going somewhere or if someone is coming over until the night before or the morning of just because plans can change. plans almost changed but in the end she was able to come. i told the kids, grandma with the sunglasses (that's what they call her) was going to come about 9:30 a.m. they started asking me how much longer at 7:30 a.m. my son literally checked the clock about 20 times. when it was 9:32 a.m. and she had not shown up, my son said, "well i guess she decided not to come!" no, son, "it's okay. she will be there." she showed up about 9:40 a.m. and they couldn't have been happier.
they spent the whole day playing legos, lightsaber fighting, playing checkers, candyland, air hockey, drawing, riding bikes and playing hide and seek. it had been a while since she had been down here for that long. i am not sure who was happier, my kids or grandma.
thursday night, i went out to eat with my friend (and fellow couponer) mrs. c. it was $1.50 cheesecake slice at the cheesecake factory for facebook fans. we had a great dinner followed by some great cheesecake. when i got my receipt, i noticed i had an offer to complete a survey about my visit to the cheesecake factory and i would receive a $10 gift card to the cheesecake factory! SCORE! we topped off the night by going to target, sans kids, to shop. we were armed with our coupon binders (one of these days i will take a picture of my coupon binder and tell you all about it!) and time to browse all the clearance shelves. at 10:30 p.m., both of our husbands called us to see where we were. we had no idea it was that late. in the end, my subtotal was $52 and i only spent $27 and mrs. c's subtotal was like $78 and she saved over $50!! she also found some great christmas gifts because they had some toys on 75% clearance.
i drove my car for the first time since the officer had been working on it on thursday night and it drove great. nice, cold air blowing on me. the officer had replaced my rear struts, and i hadn't even realized i needed them until he replaced them. i couldn't feel every single bump on the road. i had two new tires put on the front and a wheel alignment too. the officer also cleaned out the inside of my car (no more crumbs in the backseat - for now anyway). it was like driving a new car.
today i took my kids and two kids to see the tale of despereaux at harkins theater. my mom joined us. every summer many local theaters show g-rated movies for a low price. harkin's program is called summer movie fun. you can purchase "season tickets" for $10 or pay $2 for each individual movie you want to see. we have the tale of despereaux, but seeing it in the theater is just fun. we splurged on the kids icee combo (small icee, popcorn, and a package of fruit snacks - $5). they enjoyed it.
