i made a box!!!!

my sister's birthday is this week. i decided to make a box to put her birthday present in. i knew i was going to use the colors black and red. they will match her living room and kitchen. this is not a difficult project at all, but i didn't know how it was going to turn out. i made the box at least a week in advance just in case it didn't work out.

you can make this project too. i went to hobby lobby (i love that store!) and bought my supplies. i picked out a medium size paper mache box (50% off) , mod podge (it's a glue and sealer - actually i got this at michaels using my 50% off coupon too), a sponge brush, 3 pieces of black & creme scrapbook paper (on sale 4 for $1), and a small roll (15 ft.) of red ribbon (also 50% off). i hit the jackpot on sales at hobby lobby. you can buy whatever scrapbook paper you like. i purchased the 12 x 12 paper and the medium box so the paper would wrap around at least 1/2 the box.

i applied the mod podge over the box with the sponge brushe one side at a time. after i applied the mod podge i smoothed the paper over the box. it's basically like wrapping a present, making sure you have all the sides covered and enough to wrap around the bottom and along the top of the box. i did the same with the lid. after i had the paper glued onto the box, i applied the stickers onto the lid spelling my sister's name. i used tweezers to get the letters just right. after i had the box like i wanted it, i applied three coats of the mod podge to seal it. it took about 15-20 minutes for each coat to dry. after the mod podge dried, i hot glued the ribbon onto the box.

it was so easy and fun! i loved how it turned out. it is a little hard to see the name on the lid, so i think that's the only thing i would change. i found a new craft hobby to do!

okay this is how it turned out! TA -DAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay, I came back to see how you made this! I'm gonna make one for my sister to put her baby gift in. Thanks for sharing. Don't think I would have tried this on my own!

I love the box-I may very well borrow the idea in the future. I love putting presents in a usable container!
