The Cast Off

Today was the day.

Today was my daughter's appointment to get her cast off her arm.  It has been just over a month since she broke it.  I tried to prepare her yesterday just in case the doctor decided to make her wear it longer.  She cried.  She was ready to get the cast off.

She was a trooper the whole time she had her cast.  We were able to get a waterproof cast, which helped a lot.  It may have been a different story if we didn't have it.  It took hours for it to dry out when it got wet, but she would take that over not getting to swim.

She also enjoyed having people sign her cast.  She had family and friends sign it.  She also signed it for our dog.  "Hobbs" with a little paw print underneath the signature.

Her appointment was at 12:45 p.m.  She had nervous. They took us to the casting room and "Diane" showed her the saw.  She showed her that the saw would not cut her by touching it to her own arm.  Then she put on ear protection and went to work.  Diane sawed down one side of the cast and then down the opposite side.  Then she took come clamps and tore it off her arm.

I kept asking her how she was doing because she felt "funny" when she had her splint taken off.  She did say it felt funny, like it was floating behind her.  I told her that was totally normal.  She did pretty good.

The doctor came in and told us her arm looked good.  He said she might favor it for a couple of days but she'll be back to doing all the things she was doing before in no time.  When the doctor showed us the x-rays, I could hear my son continually asking her if she was doing okay.  She gave the thumbs up sign.

We celebrated with an Icee from OnCue.  :)
