First Test

The officer called me yesterday to tell me that he had signed himself and my son up for an 8 hour hunter safety course with some other cub scouts.

Okay....

My first thought was, "That's going to be a long day of sitting in a class room for my son." He's never done anything like that. We make it though church service great and he's probably sat through a three hour event, but 8 hours?

Then the officer told me my son would have to take a test at the end of the class. That made me a little nervous for my son. As you know, we homeschool. I don't think my son has ever taken a test. Even with his tae kwon do black belt test, he didn't have to sit down and take the test. The officer and I spent hours on the internet finding the answers and then we made him study it. My son has never actually taken a test.

They had to be at the police station at 8 a.m. My son told me, "Daddy came in to wake me up and told me to get dressed. I sat up and said, "Okay." , and then the next thing I remember was Daddy coming back in saying, "It's time to get dressed." again. I must have fallen back asleep!" Once again, we homeschool. We rarely have to be anywhere, awake, and alert by 8 a.m. :)

I packed drinks and snacks for them. I texted the officer when we were finished with lunch to see how things were going. He texted back, "Good." Then he texted again and said that our son was taking the test now and "they kicked all the parents out." That really made me nervous for my son. I know he gets nervous about this kind of stuff. I wasn't sure how he would do with the officer not present.

They came home around 3 p.m. The officer told me on the 50 multiple choice question test our son only missed 3. He asked the instructor how our son did. Our son was the last one finished with the test. The instructor said, "I could see your son reading each question, then reading each answer, and reading it again."

My son said it was fun. He learned a lot about guns and hunting. I asked him whether he thought the test was hard. He said, "Well there were words that I didn't know, but I just looked at the other words around it and figured out what they were asking." I guess I didn't really have to be worried. Just another reminder that my son is growing up.

UGG.....

what he learned about shotguns
