i have no pictures for today's post which is unusual for me. however, i couldn't pass up and opportunity to tell you how great my family is.
yesterday, i had my two nieces with me for part of the day. they came over to hang out a little bit before school gets started. we had made plans to eat lunch with my sister, who was coming in from out of town, and my mom. the morning went smoothly and as lunch approached we loaded into the officer's car to meet everyone for lunch. we ate at jason's deli. i had not ever eaten there before. i got the salad bar and 1/2 of a baked potato. the salad bar was delicious!
we didn't have any plans after lunch with my mom and sister. however, over the course of lunch we decided we all "needed" to go to target. i wanted to pick up some items i had coupons for, my sister needed a birthday present, and my mom needed a wedding and baby gift. one of my nieces decided to ride with grandma and my sister drove her own car. i loaded up in the car with my kids and one of my nieces. i started the car and.... nothing. not a thing happened. hmmm..... i quickly tried to call my mom, but it went to voicemail. however, she drove around the corner in the parking lot and i waved her down. i called the officer and he told me to check the battery cables. apparently if there is no juice and absolutely nothing is working, it's most likely the battery or battery cables/connections. i tried to jiggle the cables, but nothing happened. it's just dead.
we decided that my nieces would ride with grandma, and me and my kids would ride with my sister to target. yep, we just left the car in the parking lot of jason's deli and decided to go to target anyway. the officer was at a funeral escort and he said he would come by afterward to check on the car. while we were at target, we ran into my cousin, julie. she had three of her kids with her and a niece and nephew. brave girl. we said our "hellos" and "what are you doing heres". as we were chatting, my mom came around the corner with a camera in hand. she said she was just wanting to take a picture of all the "grandkids". julie ran away at this point. guess she wasn't up to pictures in target with everyone. :)
we finished in target after everyone had made their final selections. it's 3:30 p.m. at this point. my sister generously offered to take us home before she left town. my mother was going to take my two nieces to diving practice later that evening so she kept them. when she found out diving practice was cancelled, my mom dropped by my house to pick up another baby gift for my other sister. my mom's pretty exhausted at this point. while she was at my house, the officer called. he had checked the car and it was just the battery cable. my mom generously offered to take us to our car at jason's deli. the officer would "escort" us home in case the battery cable came loose again.
even though my sister needed to leave town before rush hour traffic, she took us home. even though my mom was very tired and still had other things she had to do, she took us to our car. even though it's stinkin' 104 degrees outside (110 degrees heat index, and he's wearing all of his uniform including a bullet-proof vest, and riding on a motorcycle) the officer went by the car, fixed the car, and stayed there until we got there. i will repeat, "i have an awesome family."
