So sad

My daughter came to me Friday and asked me a question.

She said, "Mommy, can I have guinea pig?"

I replied, "No, but you can ask your daddy."

Her eyes lit up with glee.  I said, "What do you think he will say?"

She answered, "He'll say, "I don't care."

She even asked me if we could go by PetSmart to see how much guinea pigs are.  She found out they are $35.  I thought this would change her mind.  I informed her the $35 is just for the guinea pig.  It does not account for the cage, toys, food and other things you would need to purchase take care of a guinea pig.  She figured she would need about $100 to save up to get it.  She even did her chores.  Oh by the way, she has $4 saved up right now.

When daddy got home from work last night, she immediately asked her daddy.

"Daddy, can I have a guinea pig.  They are about $35!"  she sweetly asked.

The officer replied, "No.  They will get stinky.  No stinky pets in the house."

She immediately deflated and resorted to a little begging.  She rarely turns this charm on so I was interested to see how it would work.  Surprisingly, it didn't work.  The officer stood firm.  Finally, I am not the one who says no.  :)

Today she showed me a note she left for her daddy.  On folded up piece of paper it said, "To:  Daddy   From:  (her name in cursive because she's been working hard on that in school.)"  Open the lovely note and there are two pictures depicting the same sentiment on both sides of the paper.  They basically both look like this:

The sad, tearful child pitifully holding out a guinea pig to her daddy.  The daddy with angry eyebrows sternly telling her daughter "NO!"

There were no tears shed yesterday when her daddy said no, but she's telling everyone she knows that she wants a guinea pig.  She's working hard to persuade us.  I think she knows it's in vain, but gotta give the girl credit for trying.

I think it was my husband that did most of the crying and persuading to get me to get the guinea pigs in the old house, and he did it again in this house with the hamsters. I HATE the stinky pets, but it is a good way for them to learn to take care of a pet. My son has to clean the cage every week and make sure it has food and water daily. Gives him responsibility. I still say they are stinky and gross though.
