things i've heard lately...

the last couple of weeks i have heard a couple of that have stuck with me. they were in sunday school or on k-love.

1. we don't grow in our faith because we don't do things that require faith. ouch.

Matthew 17:20

He said to them, "Because of your little faith. for truly, i say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you."

Matthew 21:21

And Jesus answered them, "Truly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what has been done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, 'Be taken up and thrown into the sea,' it will happen.

2. God doesn't call us because of our weaknesses, but in spite of our weaknesses so He can be glorified.

Ephesians 6:10-17

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

2 Corinthians 9:8

And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.

2 Corinthians 12:9

My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.

3. we will never be 100% ready/prepared/able to do what God calls us to do. that way we can never say we have done it on our own. it is God who we have to 100% rely on, and He will have the glory. (this last one is basically the idea of it - i didn't write it down as soon as i heard it, but you get the idea.)

James 1:5

If any of you lacks wisdom, he should as God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.

i have heard several things like these over the last month and i'm wondering if God is preparing me for something. they have stuck with me. i mean how many times have you said to yourself, "i'm not so sure i can do that God. surely someone else is better suited for that job. someone else can invite that neighbor. someone else can help that person out. i don't feel like i can do the job as well as someone else. someone else will do it. i don't have time right now to do that." i know i have uttered those words or something like it to myself.

so today i am asking myself, "what am i doing that requires faith? am i listening to what God is prompting me to do? am i willing to do what God wants me to do and if i am not, then why."
